The Clingendael Institute, situated in the park of the same name in The Hague, is the Netherlands Institute of International Relations which was founded in 1983. Clingendael is a research and training organisation and runs 4 programmes: the Clingendael Diplomatic Studies Programme (CDSP), the Clingendael International Energy Programme (CIEP), the Clingendael European Studies Programme (CESP) and the Clingendael Security and Conflict Programme (CSCP). Within the CSCP, the Conflict Research Unit (CRU) focuses on applied policy research in the fields of security, governance and development, mainly for the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. CRU has also contributed to several SSR research projects and training programmes.

The Clingendael Institute has been doing SSR research and training for various organisations, such as the Netherlands Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, the OECD and the European Commission. If the necessary research or training capability is not found witghin the institute, Clingendael can rely on an extensive database of international experts to support any programme.
The Clingendael Institute runs several training programmes for foreign diplomats, Dutch civil servants, Dutch and foreign military personnel and Dutch and foreign students on an annual basis. Besides these programmes, tailor-made training programmes have been developed and are being developed on demand for various customers.
