Acronym of Organisation:
GFN-SSR
The Global Facilitation Network for Security Sector Reform (GFN-SSR) seeks to promote effective, democratic and sustainable security sector reform throughout the world. GFN-SSR is a UK government initiative funded jointly by DfID, the FCO and MoD through the Conflict Prevention Pool (CPP) and is based at the University of Birmingham. Its principal aims are to facilitate global information sharing and network building, engage in bespoke research for UK government stakeholders, and provide training opportunities such as the quarterly SSR practitioners’ course and other in-country courses tailored to local needs. GFN-SSR supports the creation and development of regional networks (focussing on Africa in 2008, and Asia in 2009) to enhance the role of local actors in SSR. The monthly newsletter, ssrbulletin, highlights key developments and new literature in SSR, and includes a thematic or regional case-study, as well as information on upcoming events and job opportunities. In addition, GFN-SSR’s online Document Library provides access to a customisable search engine containing an extensive listing of document summaries on the latest literature in the SSR field.
