Future Training:

The courses that Alert will provide will bring together professionals working within the broader spectrum of Security Sector Reform (SSR) activities. Course participants will be presented with practical skills and tools as well as the theoretical knowledge essential for improving the success of their work as international experts/advisers working in a culturally and politically specific context. The target group for the course ‘Security Sector Reform and Community Security’ is field-based staff within a broad range of institutions, including NGOs, Government MDAs, and international agencies.

The course aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of work in the area of SSR, broadly speaking by:

  1. Providing participants with a strong conceptual framework on the key aspects of the SSR process especially focusing on reintegration from a civilian perspective.
  2. Emphasizing the necessity of engaging local communities in designing, implementing and assessing SSR programming.
  3. Facilitating participants in the process of eliciting sound operational practices on engaging at the community level around SSR programming.
  4. Enhancing participants’ skills in areas that can support their capacity to fruitfully interact with the numerous actors involved in SSR-related activities.
